Youth Games Success
Coach Eden Parkinson took 7 of our Club's victorious U17 team to Aalborg in Denmark as part of the Lancaster International Youth Games squad. They left in the early hours of the morning of 30th July to take part in 4 days of competition against youngsters from Finland, Holland, Lithuania and Denmark.

Friday saw the tennis singles start and our lads were drawn in four groups of 5 in a round robin format with the top two proceeding to quarter finals. Tom Bowe and Elliot Gardner both finished second in their groups but both lost in tight quarter finals. Dan Main was unlucky to be drawn in the same group as the eventual winner Emil Jankowski from the host nation.

For the doubles competition, each boy paired up with an international partner for a straight knock out competition.

Reuben Orr made it to the quarter finals with his Danish partner, and there were also good performances from Ronan McGrath, Joseph Hester and Elliot Gardner. Three of our lads made it to the semi finals . Dan Main and his Lithuanian partner Fausta beat a Danish/Dutch combination, while Tom Bowe and his Dutch colleague Maaike defeated the Anglo Danish pair of Adam Hill and Emil Jankowski who had to settle for bronze.

In the photo the lads are pictured with coach Eden Parkinson, wearing their medals.

The final was a close encounter and it was Dan and Fausta who emerged victorious to earn gold with a 6-3 7-5 win over Tom and Maaike.

So the Lancaster lads returned with a trio of medals from the doubles and the anticipation of another potential international trip to Rendsburg in Germany this time next year.

Thanks must go to Eden Parkinson for looking after the lads on the trip and the staff from Lancaster City Council who dealt with all the arrangements.
