Great start to the season for the junior teams
Our  U17 first team, promoted last season to Division 1, took on last year’s Division winners - St Chads at Lancaster last Saturday, 23rd April.  It was the first match of the season for both teams.

Lancaster started strongly, with the 1st pair Peter Nickson and Elliot Gardner winning the opening doubles match in straight sets. The 2nd pair followed suit by winning in straight sets, Dan Main and Tom Bowe playing well to overpower their opponents.

So after two matches Lancaster were 2-0 up. Next came thesingles, Peter Nickson, Elliot Gardner, Tom Bowe were all too strong for the boys from St Chad's. Last on court on was Dan Main, who despite winning in two sets, managed to be on court for 90 minutes!

So overall Lancaster won 6-0. A great performance by all against last year’s champions. Let’s hope this good form continues for the remainder of the season.

Also last weekend, the Club's new U17 2nd team played their first match in  Fylde League Division 2, away at Norbreck .   They also got off to a flying start with all singles and doubles teams winning every match. Adam Hill and Joe Hester settled in to their first match together to win 4-2, 4-1 and Oliver MacNeill and Matthew Cross followed suit with a 4-1, 4-0 win. The singles matches were all won convincingly by Lancaster to give the team a well earned 6-0 victory on the day.  A very  promising start for this newly formed team - which augurs well for the rest of the season.

The Club's young  U14 team had a tough start to the season coming against a strong squad, away, also against St Chad's.  They lost 1-5 but played well: Owen Cross aged 12 years (won his singles) and other members of the team were Lewi Robinson-Mackenzie aged 13, Jolyon Troughton aged 11  and Morgan Gardner aged 10 years.

New players - juniors and adults - are always welcome – look at the Lancaster Tennis Club website.
