Local Junior Wins Tennis County Tournament
Young Lancaster tennis player Tomáš Grime, has won the LTA Lancashire County 9U Tournament at the Liverpool Tennis Centre on Saturday 24 January. Tomáš, aged 8, is a junior tennis player at Lancaster Tennis Club on Lune Road and is training under Eden Parkinson the professional club coach.

Tomáš, a pupil at the Cathedral Catholic Primary School, was the youngest competitor at the tournament and he played against boys from Tennis Centres in Manchester, Bolton and Liverpool. Tomáš was seeded 5 in the competition and he beat all the boys seeded above him on his way to victory. He fought hard and all of his matches went to 3 sets.

Tomáš plays Mini Orange tennis which is designed for children aged 7 – 10. Matches are played on a court ¾ the size of an adult court with balls which are 25% lighter than adult tennis balls. A match is composed of a best of 3 sets and a set is a tie break to 7 points.

Tomáš as winner of the tournament receives a place at the next Regional Tournament which will be held at the David Lloyd Tennis Centre in Chorley where he will face competitors from the whole of the North of England.
