Enjoyable 'Welcome Back' event
Enjoyable 'Welcome Back' event
It was a bit foggy, but it was dry and not windy for the November 1st 'Welcome Back' round robin tournament for juniors over 14 and adults.   12 pairs enjoyed an afternoon of tennis doubles on the newly refurbished courts and appreciated the much improved surface and landscaping around the courts.

Names were drawn out of the hat and 8 pairs played five matches - each with 8 games, 4 with your partner and 4 against,  with short deuces.  This format is a great way to give players a chance to play and socialise with most of those in the tournament ..

At the semi finals stage a normal set is played, up to 6 games and very competitive matches were played between Paddy Maher & junior Dan Main and Chris Bowe & Paul Darwent and in the other semi, coach Eden Parkinson and junior Joe Hester took on junior Elliot Gardner and Derek Metcalfe.

After these tough sets, the final was fought between Chris & Paul and Elliot and Derek. This turned out to be a battle of the left handers and after long, hard rallies, Chris and Paul emerged the winners 6-2.   The 'prize' of Smarties and Milcy Way was much appreciated and presented by Club Chairman Paddy Maher.

All players enjoyed the games and look forward to lots more tennis over the winter and into the start of the spring season on our new courts.
