ADULTS

We are always keen to extend our membership and welcome new enthusiastic people, including beginners.
We have a special lower fee for new adult members.
We arrange an Open Day each year, usually in  April, to give people a chance to try the game. This is FREE of charge and doesn’t require prior registration. We provide the balls and can also provide racquets for use.  The next Open Day is on Saturday April 27th 2019 from 2pm to 4pm.     We have a Good Friday social tournament in a round robin format each year, and this is a great way to get back into playing.  It's a friendly and sociable event and always concludes with a BBQ and prize giving.  See below for more information on TOURNAMENTS.

We have Club social tennis on
Monday mornings together with our U3A group, from 10am to 12 noon - free to members and £1.50 for U3A and non Club members

Adult members are also welcome to play socially in their own time
- and in the summer this includes on our 3rd court on Monday, some Tuesday & Thursday evenings alongside matches.
We often go to the bar after evening social tennis which is a nice way to end the session.
The floodlights are free but
must be switched off at 10pm.

When members  play in their own time  they are encouraged to use the on-line court booking system. There is also a Singles Ladder which members are encouraged to use.  We have very active adult teams- see below under TEAMS.

In summer 2019 we have introduced a new session for beginner adult players or those who want to improve their games.   This will be held from 7pm to 8pm  on Wednesdays.   Experienced players will be on hand to advise on strokes, positioning and tactics etc.   The courts remain booked after this session for social play.

A range of social events is organised by the Tennis Club & other sections of Lancaster Cricket & Sports Club e.g. racing nights, music, quizzes, poker nights, dominoes &  bonfire night.    Our members can also  join the LCSC Quiz League team for autumn & winter quizzes on Monday nights.
We have an annual Good Friday social tournament  in a round robin format, and this is also a great way to get back into playing after the winter break. This is a friendly and sociable event and always concludes with a BBQ.   in 2019 the entry fee is 5 GBP which includes the first BBQ item.   Just turn up and play - no need to register in advance. We also now have end of season (September) and winter (November) round robin events.

There is an annual men’s and women’s singles competitions- over 14s only - usually in September.    The most recent winners of the Women's  tournament  are Sandra Eccles (2014) and Lisa Koeppel (2018).    The men's singles 2016  & 2017 champion was Peter Nickson.   In 2018 the champion was Derek Metcalfe who beat Paddy Maher in the final. An adult singles challenge ladder has also been installed in the clubhouse.

From 2014 and the building of our disabled toilet, we offered wheelchair tennis, coaching sessions and because of funding from organisations like Boost, Bruce Wake Charitable Trust & the Galbraith Trust we are able to offer coaching and Club membership at much reduced rates for wheelchair players.   We  also provided tennis specific  wheelchairs funded through the Dan Maskell Tennis Trust

The wheelchair coaching sessions have now been suspended because of lack of demand.  For queries about wheelchair tennis  contact Susan Lucas -  contact details can be found here.
