ADULTS

We are always keen to extend our membership and welcome new enthusiastic people, including beginners.
We arrange at least one Open Day a year, in the Spring and Summer, to give people a chance to try the game. These are FREE of charge and don’t require prior registration. We provide the balls and can also provide racquets for use.  In 2017 the  next Open Days will be on Sunday  July 2nd.

We have a
Good Friday social tournament in a round robin format each year, and this is a great way to get back into playing. This is a friendly and sociable event and always concludes with a BBQ.  See below for more information on TOURNAMENTS.     We have Club social tennis nights on Friday evenings from 7pm and on Wednesday evenings (alongside adult coaching which is from 7pm in the summer).    Adult members are welcome to play socially on our 3rd court on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays alongside matches.   We also now arrange daytime social tennis - contact Mary on marvinr@berkeley.edu for this.  We often go to the bar after our social tennis which is a nice way to end the evening.  We also have social tennis sessions every Sunday from March onwads, from 10am to 1pm.   The floodlights  are free but must be switched off at 10pm.

Members can also play in their own time on the courts when they are not booked for coaching, schools or matches (using the Club’s balls) and are encouraged to use the on-line court booking system. There is also a Singles Ladder which members are encouraged to use.  We have very active adultteams- see below under TEAMS- and have introducedwheelchair tennis- see below under WHEELCHAIR PLAY.

The Club has a contract with Edentennis through which Level 4 coach Eden Parkinson delivers adult coaching sessions at the Club during the main tennis season from 7pm to 8pm  on Wednesdays in the spring & summer.  IN THE WINTER MONTHS THERE IS NO ADULT COACHING.   The cost of the sessions is now £5 per person  – with non-members being charged an additional £2 - and coaching now needs to be paid for in blocks of 5 sessions.  For information on Eden's background and qualifications, click here.

During the year a number of social events are organised by the Tennis Club and other sections in Lancaster Cricket and Sports Club – such as racing nights, music nights, quizzes, poker nights, dominoes nights, and bonfire night celebrations.
We have an annual Good Friday social tournament (was held on Friday April  14th this year - see the report on  http://www.lancastertennis.co.uk/blog_Great-start-to-the-season_449751.html )  in a round robin format, and this is also a great way to get back into playing after the winter break. This is a friendly and sociable event and always concludes with a BBQ. The organiser for 2017 has not yet been announced.  The tournament will start at 10.30am.

There is also an annual men’s and women’s singles competitions, usually in August and September.    The Men's  Winner in 2015 was Nick Higham.   There were no Women's tournament in 2015 and 2016 but in 2014 the winner was  Sandra Eccles.    The men's singles 2016 champion is junior  Peter Nickson who beat  Nick Higham 7-6, 6-4.  See here for the full story.  The dates  for the 2017 competitions (for players of 14 years and over) have not yet been decided.

An adult singles challenge ladder has also been installed in the clubhouse.
The Club has a very strong track record in all local leagues and is the most successful Tennis Club in the area.      In recent years our teams have won the Fylde Men’s Division 1, Lancaster Mixed Divisions 1 and 2, the Thwaites and John Robinson knock out competitions, the Lancashire Small Clubs competition and Kendal Ladies Division 1,

We currently have two active teams in the Lancaster & District Mixed Tennis league, a Men's team in Division 1 in the Fylde League and 2 Men's and one Ladies' team in the Kendal league.  For the first time we also have a team in the Winter Veterans Lancaster & District league.

There is a Selection Committee which Sandra Eccles co-ordinates, and anyone who wants to be considered for a team should contact her on tel: 07752 619241.   For fixtures and results click here
Since 2014 and the building of our disabled toilet, we are also able to offer wheelchair tennis, and because of funding from organisations like the Dan Maskell Tennis Trust, Boost, Bruce Wake Charitable Trust and the Galbraith Trust we are able to offer coaching at the subsidised rate of only £2 per session and also free annual membership to wheelchair players.

The wheelchair coaching sessions are on Wednesdays from 8pm to 9pm in the spring and summer, starting on April 5th in 2017.   Anyone interested in joining the Club or these coaching sessions should contact Susan Lucas -  contact details can be found here.
We have a new supplier (Exito) for our Club polo shirts and hoodies this year. They are a much better quality than the earlier Club t-shirts and hoodies and include the logo of Lancaster Cricket and Sports Club as well as our own Lancaster Tennis Club logo. An order form for these items can be accessed from here.
